Pam Bales is a search and rescue worker who one fateful morning sets out on a hike that will take her to the summit of Mount Washington. Suddenly a violent storm breaks out, but he sees footprints in the snow of someone wearing only sneakers. He meets a wandering, strangely behaving man he calls “John,” and the two begin a perilous journey down the mountain to safety, encountering many obstacles along the way and nearly drowning at one point. During this time, Pam has several “flashbacks” about her two young daughters who died in a gas leak accident. After almost freezing to death, the two manage to get to safety, only for “John” to suddenly leave without thanking them.Pam tries to find out his real name and the two end up having an emotional meeting in a café where she mentions that her two daughters died from a gas leak and he mentions a loved one who froze to death on the mountain was. the previous year.
