The movie “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway” is a 2021 adventure comedy film helmed and produced by Will Gluck, who collaborated on the script with Patrick Burleigh. This sequel to the 2018 film “Peter Rabbit,” created by Sony Pictures Animation, is inspired by Beatrix Potter’s tales of Peter Rabbit. James Corden returns as the lead character, joined by Rose Byrne, Domhnall Gleeson, and David Oyelowo in live-action roles, with Elizabeth Debicki, Lennie James, and Margot Robbie lending their voices to the film.

Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway Plot Summary

After the events of the first movie, Thomas McGregor and Bea tie the knot, with their friends, both human and animal, in attendance. Peter Rabbit finally accepts Thomas as part of his life.
A month post their honeymoon, Thomas assists Bea in creating her children’s storybook inspired by Peter and his pals. However, Peter is disheartened by the book’s portrayal of him as mischievous. Upon receiving a letter from a publishing company interested in distributing the book, Thomas and Bea bring Peter, Benjamin, Flopsy, Mopsy, and Cottontail to meet the publisher, Nigel Basil-Jones. Nigel presents a marketing strategy that depicts Peter as a troublemaker and showcases a billboard design for a potential movie where he appears villainous.

Disheartened, Peter walks away and encounters an older rabbit named Barnabas in town, who claims to have been a friend of his father. They are captured by animal catchers and taken to a pet pound, where they meet a girl named Amelia. Barnabas and Peter, with the help of Barnabas’ crew, raid the family’s fridge and take the food back to their hideout.

Barnabas shares stories of his father stealing for Peter and his sisters to keep them fed until Thomas and Bea find Peter and bring him back home. The next day, Peter informs Benjamin about Barnabas and persuades him and his sisters to join in meeting the crew. Recognizing Peter’s sisters, Barnabas lays out his plan to steal from the farmers market, with their main target being packs of dried fruit. The rabbits seek assistance from their animal friends to carry out the heist.

Thomas and Bea meet with Nigel once more to review the designs for the rabbits, but Nigel suggests more changes for the next book. Thomas begins to realize that Nigel’s ideas may not align with Bea’s vision. The animals reach the market and successfully acquire the dried fruits, but all of Peter’s friends, including Benjamin and the sisters, are captured by the animal catchers when they sneak into a petting zoo.

Barnabas confesses that he intended to keep the dried fruit for himself and reveals that he wanted to meet Peter in town after reading about him in his book, never knowing his father. Feeling remorseful, Peter leaves Barnabas and seeks Thomas’ help to rescue his friends. Encountering a problem with their truck, they turn to Bea for assistance while she is in a meeting with Nigel, who proposes putting Peter and his friends in an outlandish space adventure and a perilous rescue mission to conclude the story.

Bea withdraws her stories from Nigel’s company and aids Thomas and Peter in rescuing their friends while embarking on exaggerated missions to locate them. Peter, Benjamin, and the sisters head to Barnabas’s hideout, where they outsmart Barnabas and his crew by tying them up with ropes, leading them to be taken away when the nearby tailor shop owner drives off in his truck, sending them to the pounds.

The rabbits return the dried fruit to the market vendors and reunite with Thomas and Bea as they head home, with Peter deciding to be more open to those who care for him. Later on, Bea and Thomas become parents to a baby girl, and she names the new book “Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway,” just like the film.
