In Victorian London, the medical student Max McCandles becomes an assistant to the eccentric surgeon Godwin Baxter. He falls in love with Godwins ward, Bella, a childlike young woman. As her intelligence rapidly develops, she becomes curious about the outside world and herself. She runs off with Duncan Wedderburn, a debauched lawyer whom Baxter hired to overhaul the nuptial contract. She abandons Max to learn of her past life, but discovers Alfies violent and sadistic nature and realizes Victoria killed herself to escape him.Godwin dies peacefully with Bella and Max at his side. Bella decides to follow Godwin’s footsteps by becoming a surgeon. Alfie has a goats brain transplanted into his head while Bella becomes a surgeon with the help of Max and Toinette, while Alfie also dies peacefully. Bella is forced to submit to genital mutilation by forcing Alfie to drink a sedative before he shoots himself in the foot before passing out. Max is also forced to drink the sedative in Alfie’s face after a struggle.
