Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken

In Oceanside, teenage kraken Ruby Gillman struggles to fit in with humans. Her mother, Agatha, bans her from attending prom on a ship due to the location. At Oceanside High School, Ruby’s friends convince her to ask out her crush Connor, but she accidentally knocks him into the water. Ruby saves him, but Connor thinks Chelsea saved him. Chelsea tries to befriend Ruby, who notices her bioluminescent suction cups and hides in the library. She tries to call Agatha but changes her mind. To her surprise, she turns into a giant kraken and unintentionally wrecks the library when startled by the librarian. Ruby panics, spots Chelsea, and flees to the lighthouse to hide. Agatha notices and pursues her, meeting Brill, who was sent by Ruby’s grandmother to bring her back after sensing Ruby’s transformation. Agatha catches up with Ruby, calming her down and returning her to normal size. Arthur and Sam find out about Ruby’s transformation. Agatha tells Ruby how her mishap caused the transformation and that she also turns into a kraken. Angry at Agatha’s deception, Ruby sneaks to meet her grandmother, the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas, with Brill’s reluctant assistance. Grandmamah tells Ruby she’s a princess and the rightful heir to the throne. She also warns her about the evil mermaids and their powerful trident, The Trident of Oceanus. Agatha trapped them forever. Ruby declines throne, but grateful for truth. On her way home, a mermaid named Chelsea saves Ruby from an elderly sailor named Gordon Lighthouse, who tries to kill her. Ruby attempts to resume her ordinary life, but a video of her in her Kraken form gains widespread attention. She spends a day called “Super Sea Girl Ditch Day” with Chelsea, who informs her that her mermaid mother, Queen Nerissa, was seemingly slain while attempting to recover the Trident. Ruby asks for the Trident to bring together the Krakens and Mermaids. She trains with her grandmother, Grandmamah, to become strong enough to obtain it. On prom night, Ruby tells her mother, Agatha, about Chelsea. Agatha is upset that Ruby befriended a mermaid and forbids her from seeing Grandmamah. Frustrated, Ruby goes to the ocean to get the Trident for Chelsea. Agatha confronts Grandmamah and discovers that Chelsea is not who she claims to be, as Grandmamah reveals that Nerissa never had a daughter. Ruby retrieves the trident, but Chelsea betrays her as she unveils herself as Nerissa. Nerissa manipulates Ruby to aid her in seeking revenge on the Krakens. She then traps Ruby and proceeds to wreak havoc on Oceanside. Agatha and Grandmamah help fight off Nerissa while Brill finds a wounded Ruby. He cheers her up and she goes to the surface to stop Nerissa. Nerissa defeats Grandmamah and Agatha but then duels Ruby over the trident, revealing her secret to friends and Connor. Ruby ultimately disarms Nerissa, discovering the trident’s weakness. Ruby tries to reason with Nerissa, but fails. So she, Agatha, and Grandmamah use their laser eyes to destroy the trident, defeating Nerissa and shrinking her. Gordon captures her. Ruby reconciles with her mother, reunites with her friends, and asks Connor to prom, to which he agrees. Agatha and Grandmamah also make amends. Later on, all return to their normal lives, with the Gillmans achieving greater popularity and success. Ruby and Connor become a couple. Ruby becomes protector of Oceanside. She enters the sea after Uncle Brill alerts her to a Devil Whale approaching the Kraken Kingdom. “Decreasing the amount of sugar in your diet has numerous health benefits.
