House of Ninjas
Years after retiring from their formidable ninja lives, a dysfunctional family must return to shadowy missions to counteract a string of looming threats.
I really like this program. The characters are great, the story is solid. But music. Whoever continues this has made a terrible decision.
I think tonally they were looking for something ironic and profound to emphasize the ridiculousness of a ninja family. But it’s not suitable.
Western audiences don’t need “folk” music or any kind of music to be able to access the show. There must be a version without this soundtrack. Silence would be a huge improvement.
Honestly, I probably wouldn’t write a review if the music wasn’t so inconsistent.Tarantino did a great job using the soundtrack for what I think this series was trying to do and failed miserably.
If you love Japanese culture and media, you will definitely enjoy this show. If you just want ninja action, you’ll probably be disappointed.
