Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV
Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV is a documentary TV series with four parts in 2024 that explores the backstage realm of kids’ television from the late 1990s to the early 2010s, particularly during Dan Schneider’s time as a producer at Nickelodeon. It premiered on March 17 and 18, 2024, on Investigation Discovery. The show was also launched simultaneously on Max and Discovery+.
Quiet on Set Synopsis
The documentary series delves into the career trajectory of television producer Dan Schneider during his time at Nickelodeon, where allegations of creating a toxic work environment surfaced. Former actress Alexa Nikolas shares her personal account of working on the show Zoey 101. Additionally, past members of the casts and crews of All That, The Amanda Show, and other Nickelodeon productions make appearances. In a shocking revelation in the third episode, Drake Bell discloses that he was a victim of sexual abuse by former Nickelodeon dialogue coach Brian Peck (not related to Bell’s co-star Josh Peck from Drake & Josh). Peck faced legal consequences in 2003 for child sexual abuse, although the victim’s identity had been kept confidential. The documentary also uncovers letters written in support of Peck, including ones from actors James Marsden, Kimmy Robertson, Taran Killam, Alan Thicke, Joanna Kerns, Rider Strong, and Will Friedle. Kerns expressed regret for her support letter, stating she was unaware of the full extent of the situation at the time. Another individual mentioned, production assistant Jason Michael Handy, admitted to being a “full-blown pedophile” and sent inappropriate images to a former child actress.
