The Twilight Saga: New Moon Plot Summary

On her 18th birthday, Bella Swan suddenly realized her ability to age while Edward Cullen remained 17 years old. While opening a gift package, she accidentally cut her hand. Edward’s brother Jasper, despite his efforts to abstain from human blood, was still strongly aroused by the smell of blood and attacked Bella. To ensure her safety from the vampire world, Edward told Bella that he no longer loved her and left the town of Forks, Washington with his family. Bella is deeply hurt and seeks comfort from Jacob Black, an old family friend who can help ease the pain of losing Edward.

Bella and Jacob begin to spend more time together, and Bella quickly finds that the adrenaline rush in her blood when she puts herself in dangerous situations creates hallucinations of Edward’s voice. Bella begins to engage in risky actions, such as riding a motorbike, to evoke hallucinations. Meanwhile, Jacob realizes he is a werewolf, and then reveals this to Bella. After that, Bella had the most dangerous act ever, jumping from the top of the mountain into the sea, but nearly drowned because of the rough sea and was saved by Jacob.

At the same time, Alice, Edward’s vampire sister, who has the ability to see the future, foresaw Bella jumping down from the cliff. Thinking that Bella was dead, Alice immediately went to Forks to visit Charlie Swan, Bella’s father, and Edward called Bella’s home. Jacob picks up the phone and tells Edward that Charlie is attending a funeral, referring to the funeral of a man in town who died of a heart attack, but Edward concludes that Jacob is referring to Bella’s funeral. Devastated after believing Bella to be dead, Edward flies to Italy to meet the Volturi, peacekeeping vampires who have the power to kill Edward, to help him leave a world without Bella.

Bella and Alice rushed to Volterra, Italy to stop Edward, and save him before it was too late. Before they left Italy, the Volturi told them that Bella, a human who knew of the existence of vampires, must either die or become a vampire. After everyone returned to Folks, Edward explained to Bella that he only left to ensure her safety, and she agreed to forgive him. The book ends with the Cullen family voting to turn Bella into a vampire over Edward’s objections. However, the Cullen family’s wishes were not as they thought, because at the end of the movie, Jacob mentioned the treaty between Edward’s family and his tribe, the treaty stating that the Cullen family was not allowed to transform anyone. often become vampires, if the Cullen family breaks the pact, a bloody war will break out.
